Turiya

Turiya

Turiya has nearly forty years experience of yoga and has studied in India, Australia, SE Asia as well as the UK.

He has been awarded the British Wheel of Yoga Teachers Accreditation, the SNU ‘Approved Healer’ status, and Accreditation from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Turiya’s background as a yoga teacher started with the Iyengar style of yoga which emphasises posture and breathing. He has also studied with the late Krishna Pattabhi Jois, of Mysore, India, in the Ashtanga Vinyasa style of yoga which integrates a flow, or ‘vinyasa’, to link postures, and in more recent years Turiya has also studied Satyananda yoga, as passed down through his dedicated disciple, Swami Nischalananda, of the Mandala Yoga Ashram.

In addition to extensive study Turiya has frequently visited the late Ramesh Balsekar of Mumbai, and other sages, to experience direct transmission of the philosophy of yoga, Advaita Vedanta.

The Teaching

Turiya’s teaching is an holistic approach taken from differing aspects of yoga; aimed at awakening the ‘buddhi’, or discriminating part of one’s Being. As such it can be termed

Buddhi Yoga’ ~ “I awaken those who are dedicated to ‘underlying Consciousness’ and who aspire to go deeper in understanding into Buddhi Yoga: in this way, they are enabled to Realise My Nature” ~ Bhagavad Gita verse 10:10

The philosophy is based upon Advaita Vedanta which is the non-dual perception of the cosmos, where in essence there is only ‘one thing’. Duality can be seen as an idea that everything is separate from everything else and although our scientists have perpetuated this belief system for the past few centuries quantum science now recognises that everything does exist in one ‘field’ of energy and reacts with every other entity within the field; physical distance has no relevance and time itself is only a construct, not a reality.

The study and understanding of non-dualism brings clarity and freedom to our everyday lives, which all too often are lived out in fear, confusion and isolation, leading to relational problems, stress and anxiety, which in turn lead to dis-ease and suffering.

It is not necessary to sit in a cave in the Himalayas to understand or implement the benefits and wisdom of yoga into our everyday lives. To enrol into the 2012 courses of teaching just send an email to reserve your place.
